Duran Duran - Rio mp3 album
The video album Duran Duran was released (on VHS, Betamax, and laserdisc) to coincide with the US re-issue of the "Rio" single on 11 March 1983, four months after its original release. This single included the Kershenbaum 7-inch remix of "Rio" and peaked at in US on 14 May 1983. Versions on CD. Until 2009, all official versions of the Rio album released on CD (including the 2001 Enhanced CD remaster) used a version made specifically for the original CD release, which is nearly identical to the original UK album version, but with a shortened version of the video version.
All 'Rio' lacquers, cut in-contract by TML and Precision Mastering, show a "Z" in the runout matrix and had been consecutively numbered. Except Z-1 and Z-4, the numbering system counts A- and B-side lacquers separately and was used for all three album variants
Rio. This is Duran Duran's definitive disc and one of the highlights of the New Wave movement. Synths blazing, people dressed in casual suits, beach parties and shaggy hair. Being one of the first straight up pop bands, Duran Duran must have been under pressure to follow up their surprise hit eponymous debut. The album itself had reached number 6 on the pop charts and peaked at number 101 overall
On the VH1 show True Spin, Duran Duran explained that Rio is a metaphor for America, and the song expressed their desire to succeed there, which they did. The wordplay is interesting, as Rio is sung as if it's a girl's name, and the word conjures images of the popular and glamorous Brazilian city, which goes with the exotic image the band was cultivating. The lyrics clearly state, however, "from mountains in the North down to the Rio Grande," which is the span of America. The Rio Grande river separates the US from Mexico. When Simon Le Bon and John Taylor were on the UK show Songbook, Le Bon explained: "When we went in to make the second album, when we were starting thinking about it, you (Taylor) came up with the title 'Rio' and said, 'I think this sort of says it all in kind of a Roxy Music cool sort of wa. And we were like, 'Yeah!'

The DVD is a behind the scenes look at the making of Duran Duran's 1982 album Rio through interviews, musical demonstrations and archive footage not included in the broadcast version.
In the decade of decadence, Duran Duran knew how to live the life. It was reflected in their videos (sailboats, silly white hats, tropical surroundings, grease-painted feral women) and garishly displayed in their public lifestyles. But if you can remove these connotations from the album that started it all, you'll be left with music that is anything but gaudy. For the most part, Rio is an eerie and sumptuous record.
