Don Tiki is doing what a Denny-esque band should be doing today. The Forbidden Sounds of Don Tiki is a welcome departure from hoary '50s exotica. Almost all the tunes are original, and "An Occasional Man" succeeds as both an adaptation and one of several exotica-torch song vocals. Like the singing, the all-important percussion is jazzy and adventurous, not overbearing. The augmentation, from flute and harp to vibes and whistling, is also somewhere flatly in the middle between subtle and impressive. Don Tiki's casual, rd style shines throughout, with an energy never more nor less than that of a party in the islands; non-seriousness also lets them sidestep trying to make exotic instruments sound plausible on CD. Fun music for fun people, Forbidden Sounds is a hip trip on a party ship, or at least a vibe every beach bar needs.

Tiki is the fourth solo studio album by Cameroonian jazz bassist and musician Richard Bona. It was released on October 2, 2005 through Universal Music France, and has charted in several countries. All tracks written by Richard Bona, except where noted.

Having seen Don Tiki perform at the legendary closing of the 50's Polynesian-styled Kahiki Lounge in Colombus, Ohio in 2000, it is a pleasure to see the Hawaii-based bearers of the musical Tiki Torch return to the studio to represent again on record the Spirit of Exotica. Performing under the baton of Fluid Floyd and keyboardist Perry Coma, this versatile combo represents the century 21 version of paradise envisioned by pioneer Martin Denny the 1950's. Fans of the band's first album "The Forbidden Sounds of Don Tiki" will be pleased to note the growth of their sound as well as a remarkably well recorded product from Taboo Records. This album pickes up where the first one ended and showcases maturation of the group who despite adding new musical ideas, keep the sound true. Mix a Stardust, slip into something scant, and prepare to take an exotic Skinny Dip with Don Tiki.
