Ween's next album, released in 1996, was titled 12 Golden Country Greats and was recorded with several prominent Nashville musicians, featuring a distinct country sound. It gave way to the singles "Piss Up a Rope" and "You Were the Fool". The nautically-themed album The Mollusk followed in 1997. It is considered a prog rock concept album, and featured the singles "Mutilated Lips" and "Ocean Man", the latter gaining a significant following after being a song on the SpongeBob SquarePants Movie soundtrack. Later, Ween released the first official Chocodog album, Live in Toronto, Canada. Subsequent Chocodog releases were produced in higher volumes to meet demand. Ween signed to Sanctuary Records and released Quebec, their first studio release in three years, in 2003.

Live In Chicago Bonus. There aren't many bands around today that can equal Ween with live performing talent. A few that are in their realm are Los Lobos, the Mekons, Primal Scream, Wilco, Midnight Oil (they were, at least, until their recent breakup), the Roots, and that's about it. Ween should be selling millions of records.

Live in Chicago documents two nights of a show the group did in Chicago in support of their album Quebec. The DVD features a wide variety of Ween songs, covering nearly every Ween album and even features a cover of the Led Zeppelin classic "All of My Love". Also, the DVD contains alternate camera angles for three of the performances, and a bonus music video for the song "Transdermal Celebration. Written by Anonymous.
Ween played their first overseas shows in support of the album, with a series of dates in the Netherlands in December/January 1990–91. The band released their second full-length album, The Pod, in 1991 on the Shimmy-Disc label. Parts of the show of October 23 at Toronto's Phoenix Concert Theatre would later be released as the album, Live in Toronto Canada (2001). The nautically themed album The Mollusk followed in 1997. The album was another eclectic set showing Ween's penchant for satire, deconstruction, and pastiche, including 1960s Brit-pop, sea shanties, Broadway show tunes, and especially progressive rock.
