Gary Numan - Savage: Songs From A Broken World mp3 album

There’s plenty of the latter on his 21st studio album. Guitars and keyboards crash like falling slabs of granite, percussion pulses throb and synths purr ominously. Numan’s dystopian worldview hasn’t been exactly cheered by climate change or leaving Britain for Los Angeles, only to find a Trumpocalypse. We live in a windswept hell, not.

Marking Numan's 22nd full-length of his career, Savage follows 2013's Splinter (Songs From a Broken Mind). Produced by Ade Fenton and recorded in Los Angeles and the UK, the record was largely written during the last presidential election. Trump's victory and climate policies became Numan's twisted inspiration, leading to a concept album set in a post-global warming apocalypse. A press release describes the concept best: "There is no technology left and most of the planet has turned to a desolate desert wasteland. Food is scarce, water even more so, and human kindness.

Numan initially intended Savage to have a 2016 release, but was delayed to the second half of 2017. The lead single, "My Name Is Ruin", was released on 5 July 2017, followed by second single "What God Intended" on 4 August 2017 and third single "And It All Began with You" on 21 August 2017. The album was released on 15 September 2017 and entered the UK Album Chart at - Numan's highest charting album since Telekon in 1980

Reviews about Gary Numan - Savage: Songs From A Broken World (2):
Killer album and killer pressing! Five more words at least.
A prophetic, terrifying album. I would describe the music as darkwave, and whilst Numan doesn't really innovate in the genre, his voice has withstood the ravages of time remarkably well and the songwriting is really good. The crossover between the sense of futility and waste that comes with age/mortality, and the ecological apocalypse that is the subject matter of the lyrics, is poignant. And very contemporary. It is ironic that the gloomy pioneer is now the nostalgic cynic. He was one of the first to prophesy the cyberculture in which we are now living in his coldly disembodied early technoir. He is now one of the first to count the cost of that coldness. Indeed, the final song is called "Cold". By extrapolating just a little into the future, Numan gets us to look back on our present with chagrin, hatred, embarrassment, misanthropy, even compassion. Indeed, science fiction's shiny visions of high tech futures are always shadowed by apocalyptic undertones, which has been there in the more gothic elements of his work all along. Gary Numan has always been at least a little bit out of time, anachronistic. It is precisely this that has kept him relevant. This is astonishing work. ~*~
