The Rolling Stones - Between The Buttons mp3 album

Between the Buttons is the fifth British and seventh American studio album by The Rolling Stones, released on 20 January 1967 in the UK and 11 February in the US as the follow-up to Aftermath. It was the beginning of the Stones' brief foray into psychedelia. It is among the band's most musically adventurous works; by the time principal recording occurred on the album, founder Brian Jones had all but abandoned his original role as guitarist, instead playing a wide variety of other instruments.

Approach this album with an open mind, though, and you'll find it to be one of their strongest, most eclectic LPs, with many fine songs that remain unknown to all but Stones devotees. The lyrics are getting better (if more savage), and the arrangements more creative, on brooding near-classics like "All Sold Out," "My Obsession," and "Yesterday's Papers. She Smiled Sweetly" shows their hidden romantic side at its best, while "Connection" is one of the record's few slabs of conventionally driving rock.

The result is an album drenched in Brit-pop and Dylan influences, as well as featuring the Stones' unique sound as a template for all this exploration. 2. Yesterday's Papers Lyrics.

Notes

The Decca Stones' site has this style of label and associating it with 1968 because of the lack of the UK tax code found on earlier issues of this record. What distinguishes this edition from others are the curious matrix numbers, both ending in '2A', which is lower than any of the other matrix numbers listed here on Discogs.

Reviews about The Rolling Stones - Between The Buttons (4):
WinDImmortaL
'Between the Buttons' is easily the most eclectic of any of the Rolling Stones' albums. Seems to me that the Glimmer Twins are all over the place. I've heard Mick Jagger speak of this album with disdain, but frankly, I don't get it. The album features probably their best 'two-sided hit', 'Ruby Tuesday' and 'Let's Spend the Night Together'. 'Miss Amanda Jones' is Chuck Berry on amphetamines, fabulous guitar from Keef. Sexual fetishes are explored in 'All Sold Out' and 'My Obsession'. 'Complicated' is the closest Jagger comes to a love song ('Angie' be damned). 'She Smiled Sweetly' is a very good gospel tune. I just wish Bill Wyman had tuned his bass before the recording. 'Cool, Calm, Collected' is the Stones having spirited fun with jazz, and it works in its quirky way.The only track that does not work at all for me is the oh-so-cute 'Something Happened to Me Yesterday', which seems much too self-consciously like some curious Stones' ode to 'Yellow Submarine'. The Beatles were cute. The Stones aren't.

I agree that Jagger may be too quick to dismiss this album. "Connection" is an under rated great track as well and while I enjoyed "Something Happened" I agree that this is not a classic Stones moment. Listening to "Yesterday's Papers" with headphones is an interesting experience. This album's UK version included the interesting sounding "Please Go Home" as well. I enjoy this album from a purely musical standpoint more than their next one later that year.

If other owners would check their versions of this particular album and see if you have the '2A' matrix, I'd appreciate it if you would let me know.

Hi, I've had a 2A/3A for many years. Yesterday, I picked up a 2A/2A. Test-playing it at the moment! Cheers.
