Various - Projekt: The New Face Of Goth mp3 album
Projekt: The New Face of Goth. The latest in the Projekt label's Beneath the Icy Floe samplers, The New Face of Goth isn't entirely new, but in keeping with the goal of the label's outreach to various non-musical channels where possible it's a good introduction nonetheless. The hilariously brilliant Voltaire, easily one of the most individual talents in goth circles over the years, appears twice: besides a reappearance of "BRAINS!," his soundtrack for a cartoon about a alien, there's a new song, "Goodnight, Demon Slayer.

Audio CD, July 16, 2007. I like these cds put out by Project because they keep many of the artists that I like on each release, but they also bring in new artists for you to get to know. They are sad or heavy in lyrics and sound while the rest of the cd's songs are relatively lighter in sound, even if some of the lyrics are deep and dark.

Curtis' death wrapped an already mysterious group in legend. From the press eulogies, you would think Curtis had gone to join Chatterton, Rimbaud and Morrison in the hallowed hall of premature harvests. 2002's Judas Christ cemented their change into a goth rock band, doing away with all but a few minor elements of heavy metal and offering an album that was based in the Nosferatu/Sisters of Mercy school of songwriting. Sharpe-Young, G; Born, R. "Two Witches".
To most people goth still represents the epitome of uncool and artistic worthlessness, goths still get beaten shitless at bus-stops, Spiders still sells luminous vodka cocktails to children. So what follows is an idealised portrait of goth in its infancy. It’s highly selective and at times insensitive. Following the bittersweet jangle-pop of their debut album, The Cure began to show their true, dark colours on 1980’s Seventeen Seconds. But even that gloomy outing had a new wave airiness and thrust to it; its lead single, ‘A Forest’, positively galloped, its whooshing synths, chiming guitars, desert-dry snare cracks and post-Hooky basslines all locked in kinetic, pistoning alignment.
This album could be considered a flagship of Projekt Records, another distinctive label in the gothic genre. Projekt focuses on these more ethereal, calm, soothing soundscapes (and is owned by Black Tape for a Blue Girl’s Sam Rosenthal) and Lycia fits solidly within this cohort. Tender Prey is an album that transcends the goth label and all its trappings. Across the album’s 10 songs, Nick Cave and his Bad Seeds keep matters dark in tone and cobweb-strewn, but build upon and expand elements they dabbled with before, delivering their first cohesive record. Floodland is more epic and in your face, and it has a now-quaint Cold War overtone (yet it seems that SOM is rooting for the commies). Lucretia My Reflection is so inspirational that the song has probably spawned thousands of goth girls’ online handles (I’m looking at you X lucretia79 X).

Love Spirals Downward applies a Cocteau Twins-like sound to Welcome Christmas with Suzanne Perry’s angelic vocals; Faith & the Muse lend their Renaissance rendition of A Winter Wassail. And led by an eerie group of singers, Black Tape for a Blue Girl’s Chanukkah O Chanukkah brims with dark gothic overtones.
