Bohemian Rhapsody (Live Aid) 2:28 17. Radio Ga Ga (Live Aid) 4:06 18. Ay-Oh (Live Aid) 0:41 1. From the outset, there's no mistaking that Bohemian Rhapsody is as authorised a project as it's possible to get. Even 20th Century Fox's Fanfare has been refashioned into a God Save The Queen-styled Brian May showcase. Whatever its widely anticipated accompanying visual element ultimately delivers (and its trailers bode exceptionally well), Bohemian Rhapsody's soundtrack is as dramatically paced, unrelentingly emotive and intrinsically cinematic as it's reasonably possible for any flat piece of circular plastic to be.
Queen played only the first half of Bohemian Rhapsody" opening their Live Aid set-list on-film (true to life, live). It segues into Radio Ga Ga instead of the opera section. Of course, the soundtrack dons the full studio version of the song, from their 1975 album opus A Night at the Opera. Two albums later in 1977 their sixth album, News of the World, exploded the intentional blockbuster tunes We Will Rock You and We Are The Champions, dubbed anthems in their intent to evoke live audience participation. The album also features two ie song renditions, which happen to be the oldest compositions on the soundtrack: The 1933 20th Century Fox Fanfare introduces the film with double-branded pomp and circumstance, rendered by Brian May’s signature regal layers of "Red Special electric guitar sounds.
Since Bohemian Rhapsody is a soundtrack targeted at a wide audience, not an archival release suited for collectors, not all of the Live Aid performance is here; Crazy Little Thing Called Love and We Will Rock You are missing. The omissions underscore how superfluous Bohemian Rhapsody is. This isn’t a slight against the source material, which balances standards like Another One Bites the Dust and Under Pressure with a few more unreleased live cuts and a handful of tracks assembled for the film.
