Reviews about Various - Music Of The Highlands And Islands (1):

This is a very primitive, badly dated, and bare production. My late father Stewart Ross, sings (or rather sounds like he's shouting down a megaphone). Two of his self-composed songs, the 'Highland Road', and 'Mist Covered Mountains' (later re-titled 'Stand Fast') are included. A barely recognisable vocal version of the Stewart Ross lyrical version of the 'Dark Island', sung by Argo Cameron appears on record for the first time, this was later recorded by Calum Kennedy, and his daughter Fiona Kennedy, but was miscredited. Otherwise among the Scottish dance band and choirs, a fine Inverness folk singer called Lewis Paul has a lovely voice, but no backing other than a single guitar.
