For decades, the conspiracy theorist shouted his suspicions on the fringes of society, never ascending to a position of such prominence as, say, the presidential nominee of a major American political party. Now that’s changed, and conspiracy theories are having a yuge moment in the mainstream. Conventional wisdom puts the beginning of modern conspiracy-theory culture at the JFK assassination. He may also be Dave Grohl, a group of puppet masters or another of Andrew Wilkes-Krier’s pseudonyms. La Toya Jackson was actually asked about this in 1988. Her response: I’ve always been a very big supporter of Michael’s career. We’ve always been there for each other, but we are definitely not each other.
1982–1992 is a compilation album by the Swedish band Europe, released in 1993 by Epic Records. Vocalist Joey Tempest chose the songs for this album. The album reached the top 10 in France compilation charts in April 1993. This album contains some rarities, such as "On Broken Wings", which was the B-side for the "Final Countdown" single, and two songs from the Prisoners in Paradise sessions: "Sweet Love Child" and "Yesterday's News".
The peak oil conspiracy. Peak oil (a theory in itself) is the supposed peak of oil production during and after which demand for oil outstrips supply sending prices through the roof. Popularised by the Charles Berlitz novel of the same name, conspiracy theorists believe that during an experiment at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard in October 1943, the US Navy destroyer Eldridge was rendered invisible. On December 21, 1988, the aircraft flying this route - a Boeing 747 - was destroyed by a bomb, killing all 259 people on board and 11 people on the ground. The remains landed around Lockerbie in southern Scotland.

Conspiracy theories vary in subject but are ultimately rooted in the idea that there is some singular enemy to blame and that life is not essentially a confusingly chaotic Kafka-esque nightmare of accidents and opportunism. In a simpler time, conspiracy theories were generally harmless and somewhat amusing what if thought experiments. Following the toxic 2016 presidential campaign, though, misinformation and fake news became a huge factor. Conspiracy theorists believe the towers fell as a result of a controlled demolition and not because they were hit by commercial passenger planes. The civil engineering community has widely rejected these ideas, but that hasn’t stopped speculation that the attacks on September 11th were somehow not what they appeared.
