During the two years of its existence, the Glenn Miller Army Air Force Band (the greatest orchestra he ever led) performed and recorded frequently, although most of the band's sessions have been difficult to find ever since, as their work was confined to V-Discs and other armed services-related venues. This CD has many of the best performances by the huge band, including "St. Louis Blues March," "Tail-End Charlie," "Anvil Chorus," "Everybody Loves My Baby," and "It Must Be Jelly," and at the time of its release it could be highly recommended to swing fans and jazz historians.

The Best of Army Air Force Band. Miller jettisoned most of his civilian band's musical library. ven the famous Miller sound exemplified in 'Moonlight Serenade' was only heard occasionally from the AEF Band. He initially formed a large marching band that was to be the core of a network of service orchestras, but his attempts at modernizing military music were met with some resistance from tradition-minded career officers. In 1942, Glenn Miller joined the United States Army Air Forces and was commissioned as a captain as well as being appointed as the branch's band director
