This recording of Ludwig van Beethoven's Missa Solemnis, Op. 123 offers a revelatory performance that is so clear in its textures, lively in its tempos, meticulous in its execution, and detailed in its parts that this monument of western choral music seems to have shaken off all the mossy accretions of nearly two centuries. Suzuki retains the expansive, even cosmic, feeling of Beethoven's greatest mass, while keeping the music lean, focused, and fluid, avoiding any association with conventional weightiness and excessive reverence.

Three different deadwax symbols indicates lacquers cut at the Capitol Records Pressing Plant, Scranton, PA. The "IAM" dates Side D to no earlier than 1963. The "Anvil / Lathe" was used prior to 1963, when the "IAM" was first used. Scranton used the "&" to indicate that the lacquer was in stereo.

All of these have been modified from their usual form, which may indicate Canadian pressings using Scranton lacquers. The meaning of the elaborate "d" on side C remains unknown.
