Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" is a folk song written by Anne Bredon in the late 1950s. Joan Baez recorded a solo version for her 1962 album Joan Baez in Concert and a variety of musicians subsequently adapted it to a variety of styles, including Led Zeppelin.

Bobby Henderson Powell (born July 25, 1943) is an American rhythm and blues and gospel singer and pianist. Powell continued to record for Whit, releasing a string of singles through the late 1960s in a style similar to Clarence Carter, and had his final chart entry in 1971 with his version of Baby Washington's hit, "The Bells" (number 45 R&B). He also recorded an LP for Excello Records, Thank You, in 1973. He also recorded the album Bobby Powell Explains The Glory Of Love, in 1981, and several albums of gospel music, as well as continuing to perform in Baton Rouge. As of 2016, Powell makes occasional appearances performing gospel music in Baton Rouge.

The Artistics I’m Gonna Miss You originally released in 1967, is a superb example of vocal group soul, in a similar vein to the Chi-Lites and Four Tops, highly collectable as an original. A Chicago R&B and soul group discovered by Major Lance, the Artistics were formed in 1958 at Marshall High School. Their early recordings for Okeh included the singles Get My Hands on Some Lovin and This Heart of Mine in 1964 and 1965. Former El Dorado Marvin Smith replaced Dobyne in 1964. The Artistics joined Brunswick in 1966, and scored their biggest hit with I’m Gonna Miss You, which was also the title of their debut album for the label. They had three more moderate hits for Brunswick in the late ’60s and early ’70s. Smith left in 1967, though he continued singing on studio recordings. Tommy Green and Fred Pettis also served as lead vocalists until the group disbanded in 1973.

Blind pianist/singer Bobby Powell - born in Baton Rouge in 1941 - started out as a gospel singer in the 1950s. By the outset of the 1960s, however, he'd switched to singing R&B and was signed to Whit Records, where he succeeded right out of the box with "What Are You Trying to Do to Me" b/w "Red Sails in the Sunset" - the latter didn't chart nationally but was good and popular enough locally to get picked. Powell's third record, "Do Something for Yourself" b/w "It's Getting Late in the Evening," made it to number 21 on the charts the following year, and in 1967 he once again charted a single with "I'm Gonna Leave Yo. That marked the end of Powell's string of successes, however, although he still released two singles a year, brushed the charts once more at the end of the decade, and had a number 14 hit in 1974 with "The Bells.
