Icebreaker With BJ Cole - Apollo mp3 album

Icebreaker have performed Apollo many times around the world since, but only now has it become an album, and old Chrome-Dome has given it his seal of approval. It makes a strange kind of sense. With its combination of keyboards and pedal steel, pan-pipes, saxes, accordion, drums and percussion, this rendition is a hybrid of electronica, country and classical, but it isn’t that far removed from Eno’s original conception of the album

On the 50th anniversary of the Apollo moon landings, Icebreaker perform their multi-media reworking of Brian Eno’s Apollo album alongside works from eclectic ground-breaking composers. Featuring pedal steel guitarist BJ Cole, film from Al Reinert’s documentary about the Apollo space missions, For All Mankind, and music by Brian Eno, Roger Eno and Daniel Lanois, Icebreaker’s piece captures the excitement and awe of the time. Widely regarded as Eno’s most significant work, the music matches the beauty and tranquillity of the moon with the dizzying scale of the feat of engineering involved. A performance from the Brighton International Festival 2010. Icebreaker featuring pedal-steel guitarist BJ Cole, play Deep Blue Day, by Brian Eno, Roger Eno and Daniel Lanois, arranged by Woojun Lee. Cole grew up in Enfield, attending Chase Side primary school and Chace secondary school for boys. He became interested in music in his teens, his first major inspiration being The Shadows. Cole initially learned to play guitar, but became disillusioned with the instrument, conscious of the number of talented guitarists that were already active on the music scene. In 2012, he was a featured soloist with Icebreaker in a live version of Brian Eno’s album Apollo: Atmospheres & Soundtracks. He has also played live with First Aid Kit, Ethan Johns, Michael Messer, the folk singer Bonnie Dobson, and Terry Reid, and has returned to perform with Hank Wangford, appearing at gigs and on albums such as Whistling in the Dark (2008).

Veteran (they formed in 1989) experimentalists Icebreaker, who are now 13-strong and feature violins, cellos, pan pipes, saxophones and keyboards are joined by pedal-steeel guitar don BJ Cole to play Eno's 'Apollo' album in its entirety.
