Comet Gain - City Fallen Leaves mp3 album
Comet Gain are a British indie pop band, formed by singer-songwriter and guitarist David Feck (aka David Christian/Charlie Damage) in 1992, with musical influences including post-punk and northern soul. Comet Gain's first release was two tracks on Wiiija compilation EP Some Hearts Paid To Lie in 1993, alongside three riot grrrl bands. Following an EP on Soul Static Sound in 1994, Comet Gain signed with Wiiija and released debut album Casino Classics and a further EP in 1995.
Some will find City Fallen Leaves ' tighter, strums-and-drums approach more appealing, but it makes a poor backdrop to David Christian's puffed-up musings on mixtapes and the arcana of London post-grad life. Christian does quarter-life crisis with an admirable lack of direction. His bandmates often seem lost, too, but don't blame them: Comet Gain have shuffled through countless incarnations, Christian the only remaining alphamember. Picking up the thread, Christian and co. muster plenty of existential bluster, the keystone of the 13-year-old band-cum-franchise
Comet Gain are from the same underground British pop scene that brought you Huggy Bear, Clinic, Cornershop, and Belle And Sebastian. Songwriter/front man David Feck is inspired in equal parts by The Go-Betweens, Godard, Irma Thomas, dance parties, Dexy's Midnight Runners, falling in love, mod, and hootenannies. City Fallen Leaves" is an exploration of what happens in your 30's when you still love all the things you did in your early 20's, when music and love still mean everything but most of your friends have settled into oblivion
Comet Gain are one of the most beloved bands in all of the western world. Over dozens of releases, they've painted a consummate picture of life in modern southeast Britain. They sit at the nexus of punk, post-punk, mods, rockers, romantics, aesthetes, bohemians, hedonists, philosophers. But their albums are highly prized. M'lady's is incredibly excited to be reissuing two of their best: Realistes from 2002, and their double album opus City Fallen Leaves from 2005. M'lady's reproduce the albums exactly as originally issued, and with the full participation of the group.
Studio album by Comet Gain.
But what City Fallen Leaves does is read and sound like is a hipster's guide to music. It is PopArt - without the gallery dissertation. Comet Gain is a perfect postmodern band - self-conscious ("I love the photographs of photographs"), loaded with notable and varied references (Silverlake, The Supremes, The Chills, Raymond Chandler), and contributing little beyond the immediate moment. There is a good deal of precision on this album, for it surely takes fine crafting and great skill to mold and shape such pop tunes. And there is also plenty of passion - but passion for the aesthetic, for the image of music. We get a nice refrain on the LP's simply melodic, acoustic driven tenth track, as singer David Feck repeats "I will try to be happy", that could be heard and repeated as intimate Zen, but here comes off as the recitation of a song lyric.
