True to its name, Star! was, first and foremost, a vehicle for star, Julie Andrews. In point of fact, the film was expressly developed for her by director Robert Wise and producer Saul Chaplin. They profess to having been so enchanted with Julie Andrews during the filming of The Sound of Music, they wanted to create a new film to showcase Julie’s versatility (Edwards 1994).
