The Modern Jazz Quartet - The Last Concert mp3 album

The Modern Jazz Quartet broke up after the concert documented on this double CD. It would be nearly seven years before the group got back together again but it certainly went out on top. Mostly revisiting their greatest hits, the MJQ is heard on this two-fer playing inspired versions of such songs as "Softly, As in a Morning Sunrise," "Bags' Groove," "Skating in Central Park," "Confirmation," "The Golden Striker," and, of course, "Django.

Recorded on November 25, 1974 at Avery Fisher (Philharmonic) Hall, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, New York City, in a concert presented by Harold Leventhal. Tracks B2 & C4 taken from Roger Vadim's film 'No Sun In Venice'. This double vinyl release is pressed with side A and D on vinyl 1 and side B and C on vinyl 2.

The Complete Last Concert. Label: Rhino Atlantic. Forget about the MJQ's stuffy, professorial image. The could, and did, swing like nobody's business - especially in concert. First off: drummer Connie Kaye and bassist Percy Heath made up one of the greatest rhythm sections in jazz history. Then, group leader John Lewis' lean, stabbing piano lines build a foundation for Milt Jackson - the single greatest vibraphonist in history - to solo on top of. An exciting document from a pigeonholed band.
