Matilda Mother Lyrics. Oh, Mother Tell me more. The third track on Pink Floyd’s debut album, The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, it was written by Syd Barrett and sung by Richard Wright on lead and Syd Barrett on backup. The song is about nostalgia, particularly Syd’s longing for his childhood to return in a somewhat depressing tone. The lyrics were orignally taken from a lesser-known children’s book Cautionary Tales for Children by Hilaire Belloc. However, an unexpected letter from the Belloc estate forbade the original song from being released. The final version, as seen here, is only inspired from it. "Matilda Mother" Track Info.
