Roky Erickson often seems to be better known in rock circles for his well publicized psychological maladies and his less-than-gentle treatment at the hands of Texas' judicial system than for his music - and that's a shame. When Erickson's legal problems came to a head in the late 1980s, longtime fan and Sire Records executive Bill Bentley assembled Where the Pyramid Meets the Eye: A Tribute to Roky Erickson to raise money for Erickson, as well as drawing attention to the unique beauty of his music.

Great to have this on vinyl and the extra tracks from the original cassette version are a nice bonus. Unfortunately this release lacks the liner notes and some of the inside artwork in the original CD and cassette versions. Would have been nice to include those. Répondre Me notifier 1 Helpful.

The album was released by Sire Records in the United States, and by WEA International in Europe. The album was produced by Bill Bentley, who also produced a 1999 tribute album to Moby Grape co-founder Skip Spence, who, like Erickson, was subject to the challenges of schizophrenia.

Roky Erickson is one of those artists that are few in number. Roky is a genius there is just no other way to put it. When you listen to this album the evidence of that genius is that each song sounds like it was written by or for the artist covering it. That songs can be that malleable have that much space to them that you would think that Julian Cope or the Judybats were playing their own music is testament to how timeless true art is. You hear that same beauty when listening to Roky just playing guitar and singing by himself on one of his own albums. True quality is always evident no matter. man, this is great stuff. a great tribute the man himself, rocky! ya can't go wrong with this purchase.
