In 1981, Donnie Iris and the Cruisers were privileged to open for the Michael Stanley Band’s record-setting litany of concerts at Blossom Music Center (our friend, Michael Stanley and his then band, the Michael Stanley Band, still holds the attendance record for a single concert event over consecutive days at Blossom Music Center). Donnie Iris and the Cruisers had an emerging album on the Billboard Albums Chart ( King Cool ) and a video of a rising song on the Billboard Singles chart called Love Is Like A Rock (culled from the 1981 Blossom shows). I saw Donnie Iris & the Cruisers live in the '80s, and this 1997 concert is as fantastic as I remember. Donnie can still hit those high screams. Every song brought back great memories and "Ah Leah" was the pinnacle. Any Donnie Iris fan would love this CD. These guys, along with Joe Grushecky and the Houserockers, are western Pennsylvania's best rock bands of all time. 7 people found this helpful.
Donnie Iris and the Cruisers released their first album Back on the Street on MCA in 1980. It also featured the song I Can’t Hear You that charted at number 47 in the Billboard Hot 100. The Ah Leaha video was shown on MTV. King Cool. After an appearance in Toronto, a music critic described Donnie as the new king of cool. Drawing on the phase, Donnie and the Cruisers entitled their second album King Cool. Released in 1981 on Razor and Tie Records, it featured the song Love is Like a Rock that did even better than Ah Leaha . The Donnie Iris and the Crusier recording again in 1997 to release the album Poletown. They have since released the albums "Live at Nick's Fat City" (2000), "Together Alone (2000), "Ellwood City (2006), "Ah! Live! (2009) and the "Ah! Leluiah!"
