Al Ferrier first recorded for Goldband in 1955, and produced two singles, "No No Baby" and "My Baby Done Gone Away. Originally a country singer from Montgomery, Louisiana, Ferrier was greatly influenced by Carl Perkins. He and his group the Boppin' Billies became one of the region's notable rockabilly bands. Their distinctive sound was due in part to Al's brother Brian Ferrier, a talented lead guitarist who had played with Elvis Presley on the Louisiana Hayride. Ferrier recorded other rockabilly numbers for Jay Miller, but the music did not take off.
