Bruce Dickey is an American cornett player. He is regarded as the doyen of the modern generation of cornett players, many of whom were his students at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis and Early Music Institute at Indiana University, or students of his students. In 1987 he founded the ensemble Concerto Palatino with the Dutch baroque trombonist Charles Toet, following the name of the original eight-man Concerto Palatino della Signoria di Bologna of San Petronio which was famed from 1530 to 1800.

Concerto Palatino, Bruce Dickey & Charles Toet. the singing is first-rate, and the instrumental line-up, with two cornetts and up to eight trombones, often sounds glorious in the spacious acoustic of the Reformierte Kirche Arlesheim in Switzerland. The operas of Francesco Cavalli have earned him a secure place among the masters of the 17th century, yet he has remained almost completely unknown as a composer of sacred music. While the greater part of his time and energy was undoubtedly devoted to the 32 operas which he produced in Venice, Cavalli nonetheless pursued a constant and parallel career in sacred music which spanned 60 years of activity at St. Mark’s.

Vespro della Beata Vergine (Vespers for the Blessed Virgin; SV 206 and 206a) – more properly in Latin Vesperæ in Festis Beatæ Mariæ Virginis, or casually Vespers of 1610 – is an extended musical composition by Claudio Monteverdi for soloists, choirs and orchestra. The liturgical vespers is an evening service, part of the Catholic Divine Office. In scale, Monteverdi's Vespers was the most ambitious work of religious music before Bach, with a duration of around 90 minutes.
