Queens of the Stone Age discography. The discography of Queens of the Stone Age, an American hard rock band, consists of seven studio albums, one live album, three extended plays, fourteen singles, three promotional singles and twenty music videos.

The best way to sum up Era Vulgaris is by stating that Josh Homme stamps his name over the label that says ‘Queens of the Stone Age’ on the album cover. Sure, the rest of the band sounds good, but the drumming and bass work feel. .well, average, only tasked with providing rhythm to Homme and his guitar.

I play a game 'til I'm dead Or on a magazine I wanna look like I'm dead Dancing on a string I eat the food when it's there Make a mess of things Ge. iscuss these lyrics on MetroLyrics.

Era Vulgaris is Homme’s fifth Queens album, and like the others, it’s intricately crafted, meticulously polished and ruthlessly efficient in its pursuit of depraved rock thrills, with robotic rhythm machines like Turning on the Screw and I’m Designer. Last time, Homme got slept on with the excellent but underrated Lullabies to Paralyze - people were thrown off initially by its down-in-the-dumps mood, which may be why the music took longer to kick in for some fans  .

Reviews about Queens Of The Stone Age - Era Vulgaris (46):

Damn this record went up in price fast, was it only a small reissue?
Steel_Blade
This is still in print. People are mistaking the reissue for the first pressing and are listing it on that page. That also makes owners of the real first pressing go down in price. Now is your chance to buy an original.

I too bought it for collection reasons, sealed. If you have a quality record deck, it’s a total disappointment in comparison to Matador / Music on Vinyl re-releases. Rated R / Lullabies / Like Clockwork / the latest boring one and Them Crooked Vultures, which all sound full of presence and so very revealing. Sadly this is a congested, flattened, boxy presentation, the polar opposite of the landmark music it contains. It’s Radiohead syndrome, whose many vinyl releases are also a disappointment in comparison to their digital counterpart.... but this was the mid 2000’s when the record industry was download crazy and couldn’t care less about vinyl. I’ve requested MOV reissue it, perhaps we could all do the same! Lullabies is such a solid reissue and this neurotic album deserves to be resurrected.
Yozshubei
It’s the original sadly and it’s sounds terrible. I see there’s now a Nov 2018 US reissue... it’s now available in the UK
Quendant
Did you buy a sealed original or the newest pressing? I have the original and it sounds superb.
Xlisiahal
Sounds really good. Compared to the CD, the sound is a lot fuller and wider. I believe this is a different mix compared to the CD aswell as the drums are mixed differently in many of the songs. For example, in 3's and 7's the hihat is in the center, not on the left side. Also Sick, Sick, Sick sounds a lot meatier. Higher dynamic range too I believe.
Ahieones
It seems there's been a new 2018 reissue of the 3×10" vinyl, but people are listing it as the 2007 release?
Anaragelv
Love this album! Don't mind the 10 inch format, it looks cool and unique. Sounds good on my setup. If you can find it for cheap, get it!!
Vispel
My copy sounds fantastic! Bright and balanced with plenty of highs and lows. All depends on your set up and weather you scored a hot press or one at the end of the stampers life.
Jan
End of the stampers life... is that a thing? 10 words

Nice to see the discussion over here. I bought it back in 2007 and immediately discarded it as the worst sounding vinyl I've ever had the displeasure to listen to. 11 years later and hundreds of records later, this one is still the holder of the turd crown. Gimmicky and distorted pressing of an already lo/mid-fi record is a deadly combination.
Jusari
Pressing sounds great to me -- Clearaudio turntable, KEF speakers. Not a huge fan of the 3x10" format on this but the sound quality is fine. Mids are forward but that was the "aesthetic" of the record.
Visonima
Sounds worse than the CD. I have both, A/B tested them and ripped them both to .flac/.mp3. Listened on headphones to both. CD is better quality. More clarity in the cymbals. Then again, this was a low-fi record to begin with.
Nettale
I think I have this CD, I mean it's the same cat. number, bar code, etc., the thing is on the back says BONUS The fun machine... but the song is not on the CD. Anybody else with the same CD? Is this a mispress?
Rko
I just got this at Newbury Comics last week (10-12-2017) and it sounds GREAT! I was worried about what everyone was saying. It sounds just as good as the CD mastering goes. And trust me when I say this, because I have the Rated R re-issue on vinyl (rounded corner white box in the top-left) and that sounds HORRIBLE :(. Anyways, I love this record. Era is one of my favorites of theirs, equal to Lullabies to Paralyze. So many memorable tracks - I'm Designer, Sick Sick Sick, Suture, Into the Hollow, Misfit Love, Running Joke. And basically everything else they did in these sessions: Fun Machine, Era Vulgaris, Christian Brothers, MAN! I miss it when they just played in the studio endlessly just because they loved making tracks. Now it seems that they just focus on 10 songs, literally, not even a b-side or cover in sight. And they play the same set lists every night... Ah well.People have said that the needle runs into the center circle, but mine doesn't. It is unusual to flip the record/change the record every 2 songs (literally), but whatever. I like how they experimented with this album. I don't like how ...Like Clockwork was 45 rpm, I would have loved that record on only 1 disc. But whatevs.

What I hear compared to the CD is a tad more compression (not terrible, but noticeable), a little too much midrange "honk", and significant distortion in the top end. I won't say it sounds awful, but I really wish it sounded better. Alas, I love this album, and this is the only version on vinyl, so I'll still listen to it and enjoy it, for the most part. Surface noise is no different than most records, sounds fine to me in that regard. I hate that all the runout grooves go into the labels, like they forgot they were making 10" records when ordering the labels or something. Or maybe that was done on purpose, in which case all the extra compression and noisy top end makes perfect sense. "Hey guys, we should totally release this record on vinyl, but put it on three 10" records, package it in a weird top-loading jacket so dust can get in super easy, and let's make it sound ugly!" ... I dig that, if that's the case. Otherwise I'd say this is simply a product of inferior mastering.Rekords Rekords (or Interscope or Ipecac or whoever makes it happen), PLEASE remaster and reissue this on a 12" double-LP! Like, EXTRA pretty please, with extra extra sugar!!!
Malalrajas
I really hope this is reissued in 2x 12" 45rpm at some point.
Barinirm
Surface noise is virtually absent. The audio sounds saturated - although volume level is ok - and compressed. It's possible to achieve better quality on vinyl. Music on Vinyl did this with "Lullabies to Paralyze" and Matador Records did this too with "... Like Clockwork".
Nalme
Great packaging, but it caused one of the discs to get in a bowl shape. Still playable. By the way, this is not really in mono: right in the 1st song, you can hear a guitar pattern that passes from right channel to left and back to right. The rest of the mix sounds more like duophonic than mono to my ears.
Fenrinos
Doesn't the cover say "YOU HAVE MONO"? Referring to the kissing disease?
Bludsong
lol you're right! sorry about that...so now I have mono and a stereo triple 10'' set.
Quynaus
lol It says you have mono not that it's in mono
Beazerdred
If anything this is totally worth it for the exclusive track 'Running Joke'.
Helldor
Lots of people are complaining about the pressing. Not the best but still sounds great. Its in Mono... which is different than the CD and probably accounts for a lot of the "flat" complaints. I am accustomed to the CD mix, but I have found a lot of joy listening to it on my record player. Some songs sound worse (turnin' on a screw, sick sick sick) others sound better than the CD mix (suture up my future, Make it with you)
Haal
It's not in mono, read the cover carefully because it states: "You have MONO"It's a joke
Gardataur
Vinyl pressing is inferior. Suffers from compression, sounds like it was mastered from MP3. It may not be a deal breaker considering it's a pretty noisy rock album. Some listeners may not require the highest fidelity to enjoy it. Having listened to it for years on CD and finally purchasing the vinyl release, the discrepancies are audible.
Zainn
Super album, rare music. But some listeners here react like "the widow in the bed", crying about 'surface noise', low or flat or whatever. Some surface noise means nothing for killer records like it. All my Motorhead vinyl collection has some "surface noise" too but I love them. If you want 'perfect' sound just clean your ears. Or you can buy a cd. Don't listen rock n roll, listen other kinds of music or use other music formats. However, have you ever listened cassetes? Have you ever saw a QOTSA or other rock band in a concert?
Kieel
This pressing sounds completely fine, I really don't get what the fuss is about. I bought it from mint sealed, and there is absolutely no surface noise. It sounds really nice and punchy, as it should.
Leceri
This pressing sounds flat and dull. Total waste of money. Whoever mixed/mastered/screwed up this mastering can as Josh says, "Eat a bag of dicks." The CD sounds 10x better, which is a total shame.
ladushka
Agree. The packaging can get ripped very quick but the audio is totally shit. Checked the needle several times for dust but nothing. Total miscopy audio wise but a great rare item.
Ylal
I bought this for collector purposes only because it looks so damn cool. But upon playing it, I think it sounds nice and punchy. Low noise, but I am using a Sumiko Pearl cartridge, which probably helps. The highs are a bit distorted but thats part of the album. In any event, this isn't an awful press. (unlike the new Metallica represses. Good god).
I_LOVE_228
Vinyl version's surface noise is harsh, but I believe it was intentional. It does make some points hard to listen to, however.Package claims I have mono, but I never contracted that sickness in my lifetime. How rude.
Amerikan_Volga
Sounds great :)
Mall
Mono o Stereo ?
Danskyleyn
I think the album was mastered to overall have a noisy quality to it. It definitely doesn't sound half as good as other QOTSA albums on vinyl, but I think that's the point. It's bleak, dirty, loud, but still a fantastic album. But it was a limited pressing after all, more so for collectors or hardcore Queens fans, so we can't expect too much, can we?
Cordann
Not too shabby.
Nahelm
The sound isn't flat, it's vulgar. I still find the album enjoyable and fresh.
Purestone
YES. This guy nailed it. It's meant to be this way. It's very listenable.
Darkshaper
I agree about the sound quality. It was noticeable and sounds flat. Bothered me the whole time I was listening.
Kelerana
Yes the mastering is not the best. But it is not irritating for me.. Not with this kind of music.
Ximathewi
The sound is awful. Hopefully it will be reissued on 2x12". Wishfull thinking...
Thabel
I never believed that Josh Homme could release something so mediocre. I guess it happened. The only reason to come back and listen to this album is because it is a QOTSA album. Uninspired
Shomeshet
So very, very true. Maybe its about time for another installment of Desert Sessions.
Mojind
Sound Quality A Bit Over Compressed For Me? Anyone Else?
Mora
Not only was this way over compressed into distortion and artifacts, it's also incredibly midrange-y too. Totally disappointed. My original CD rip sounds much cleaner than this LP.
Datrim
Definitely sounds mastered to hot for me. The vocals sound like they are slightly distorting at points. Oh well. Seems that this is common these days with a lot of modern record pressings. Too bad.
