Murcof - Martes mp3 album

Martes, the first Murcof album, came out in the year Corona became a father. With this album Corona continued to work in the MF Relay style of minimal dance rhythms interwoven with samples from holy minimalism and other modern classical sources Corona left Nortec in 2002. In 2007 Corona released the third Murcof album Cosmos. It was a spacious dark ambient record which included dense walls of textures (hinting at Ligeti), abstracted sounds of synth pioneers, intense climaxes and on some tracks glitchy dub and techno beats.

Fernando Corona had a stated purpose for his debut album as Murcof: Take contemporary composition and introduce it to the world of minimalist Mexican techno. Originally released only in Mexico in late 2001, Martes didn't see broader distribution until the middle of 2002, when the Leaf label saw fit to reissue the record in North America and Europe.

Martes" is a great album to put on while studying/reading as background music but can be equally experienced 1-on-1 via stereo headset without boredom whatsoever. The beats are complex, the arrangements are dynamic, and the rhythm I just can't stress enough - it really swings. This would be a great way to introduce your parents to some electronica - well produced, clever, sophisticated, humble, classic.

Second full album from Fernano Corona as Murcof. released October 3, 2005. Remembranza continues to build on the emotional depth and electronic minimalism of Martes.

Reviews about Murcof - Martes (8):

Martes still owns it in 2016. The whole glitch movement was a big deal in the early 2000s, but most of it is pretty forgettable now. For me the other best of the glitch crowd were (and still are) SND, but whereas they are hardcore minimal glitch and as a result not well known, Murcof started out far more accessible and gradually lost his glitchy tendencies.

a good example of that movement is the scape records, check Pole, Deadbeat and Jan Jelinek if you don't know them. Vladislav Delay is interesting too. In a more ambient sense i think also Loscil is quite similar on some albums. just discovered ametsub as a glitch artist but he's kinda on another genre. if you know someone other please share i enjoy so much!

Martes sounds as fresh and essential in 2016 as it did when released. A modern day classic.

Very exquisitely, emotional and at the same time calm ambient with a minimal, blipping techno-house beats. Brilliant!

"Unison" is a hauntingly beautiful masterpiece. It's a sustained drone of cosmic reverberation overlaid with a nimble beat that has a rhythmic capability much greater than its perceived volume would make you believe. Actually, this is true for most of the pieces on this album (ie Mir) and is a sign of true mastery on Murcof's behalf. "Martes" is a great album to put on while studying/reading as background music but can be equally experienced 1-on-1 via stereo headset without boredom whatsoever. The beats are complex, the arrangements are dynamic, and the rhythm I just can't stress enough - it really swings. This would be a great way to introduce your parents to some electronica - well produced, clever, sophisticated, humble, classic.

Possibly one of the very best electronic albums of all time. Murcof's Fernando Corona works minimal modern classical samples into subtle micro beats and clicks to create an album full of emotions.
