Jerry Garcia And John Kahn - Pure Jerry: Marin Veteran's Memorial Auditorium, San Rafael, California, February 28, 1986 mp3 album

In Garcia: An American Life, biographer Blair Jackson describes a rare instance of Jerry Garcia's playing an actual solo performance - just him and his guitar alone on-stage - and makes it clear that Garcia did not enjoy the experience. In addition to his work with the Grateful Dead, Garcia did shows with many other fellow musicians in many different configurations and in several different musical styles. But he almost never performed by himself. It would be nice to be able to report that on what is the closest thing to a real solo album in Jerry Garcia's catalog, he took the opportunity to rethink and rearrange his music, but that's not the case here.

The setting is the wonderful 2,000-seat Marin Veteran's Memorial Auditorium in San Rafael, the last of 12 acoustic shows John and Jerry played that winter. It'd been a solid tour, with sold-out concerts in a number of cool East Coast venues. But this was a hometown show - literally - so the air was both relaxed and festive. The twelve songs collected here on a single disc are the complete two-set show from that night, nearly 70 minutes of music; a nice blend of old folk tunes, a Dylan number and Hunter-Garcia classics

Compliments, also known as Garcia, is Jerry Garcia's second solo album, released in 1974. It includes one newly written song by John Kahn and Robert Hunter but is otherwise composed of cover versions. The album peaked at number 49 on the Billboard chart  . Jerry Garcia and John Kahn. Pure Jerry: Marin Veterans Memorial Auditorium, San Rafael, California, February 28, 1986. Pre-Grateful Dead bands. Mother McCree's Uptown Jug Champions.

Garcia is Grateful Dead guitarist Jerry Garcia's first solo album, released in 1972. Records offered the Grateful Dead the opportunity to cut their own solo records, and Garcia was released around the same time as Bob Weir's Ace and Mickey Hart's Rolling Thunder. Unlike Ace, which was practically a Grateful Dead album, Garcia was more of a solo effort, as Garcia played almost all the instrumental parts. Six tracks (specifically those coauthored by lyricist Robert Hunter) eventually became standards in the Grateful Dead concert repertoire  .
