Riccardo Muti conducts the Filarmonica Della Scala. Brani/Track List: The Godfather & The Godfather, Part II Sony/ATV. Nino Rota: Music for the Movies, on and off stage. A strange fate awaits music written for movies. A composer meticulously prepares the score for a soundtrack, frequently after tense interchanges with the director; once the recording is completed, the work becomes an integral part of the film, and the composer puts it behind him. In most cases when a movie is a big hit, its incidental music is an integral part of its success, and a record is released of the original soundtrack.

Riccardo Muti & Orchestra Filarmonica della Scala. 12 Songs, 1 Hour 11 Minutes. Rota: Music for Film. Beethoven: Concerto for Violin and Orchestra & Romances for Violin and Orchestra. Verdi: Overtures & Preludes, Vo. I.

Orchestra: Filarmonica della Scala. Conductor: Riccardo Muti. Audio CD (February 1, 2000). Unfortunately, this music is often derisively categorized as film music for the concert hall. Nothing could be more false. The piano concerti recorded here are tuneful and delightful works. The Concerto in C (1960), dedicated to Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli reminds one of Prokofiev and Stravinsky. The music opens with a solo for the piano, seeming to be a piece for the piano along until the orchestra is announced by a series of stunning chords. The first movement is witty and breezy, followed by a set of variations on a beautiful, contemplative melody.
