West Germany (performing as Germany) took part in the Eurovision Song Contest 1982, held in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, United Kingdom. The German national final to select their entry, Vorentscheid 1982, was held on 20 March at the Bayerischer Rundfunk Studios in Munich, and was hosted by Carolin Reiber. Twelve songs made it to the national final, which was broadcast by Bayerischer Rundfunk to ARD broadcasters across West Germany

The United Kingdom was represented in the Eurovision Song Contest 1982 by Bardo with the song "One Step Further". It was chosen as the British entry through the A Song for Europe national selection process and placed seventh at Eurovision, receiving 76 points. The television show A Song for Europe was used once again to select the British entry, as it had since the United Kingdom's debut at the Contest in 1957. Terry Wogan once again hosted the contest, which was held on 24 March. Eight songs were shortlisted from those submitted to the Music Publishers Association.
In 1982, Toledano represented Israel in the Eurovision Song Contest in Harrogate, UK with Hora which was written by Yoram Taharlev. He finished in second place, after the German winner, Nicole. Fun fact: In 1983 Toledano composed the Israeli song at the Eurovision Song Contest in Munich. Chai (Alive) was performed by Ofra Haza and also won second place. The song won the contest and when she reprised the song after the end of the contest voting, she performed parts of the song in English, French, and Dutch along with the original German.
