Woody Herman And The Herd - Woody Herman And The Herd At Carnegie Hall mp3 album
Woodrow Charles Herman (May 16, 1913 – October 29, 1987) was an American jazz clarinetist, saxophonist, singer, and big band leader. Leading various groups called "The Herd", Herman came to prominence in the late 1930s and was active until his death in 1987. His bands often played music that was cutting edge and experimental for its time; they received numerous Grammy nominations and awards.
Bringing together the known recordings from a 1946 performance of Woody Herman and the Herd at Carnegie Hall (some of which have never been released, others of which were previously scattered across two albums), this album marks several important moments in the history of Herman's music and jazz in general. At the time of this performance, Carnegie Hall was still the exclusive bastion of classical music - though Herman's band had already played there, this performance still marked one of the first jazz concerts to be performed at the famed New York venue.

This band was later better known as 'Woody Herman & The First Herd'. After the recording ban ended the Swing era in late 1944, and after he was driven to change his band due to the war years, Woody Herman finally created an ensemble, which was oriented towards the arising Bebop style. As a result, around August 1944, the soloists of Woody Herman And His Orchestra got called Woody Herman's (first) herd
