This list of compositions by Robert Schumann is classified into piano, vocal, choral, orchestral and chamber works. All works are also listed separately, by opus number. Schumann wrote almost exclusively for the piano until 1840, when he burst into song composition around the time of his marriage to Clara Wieck. Op. 1, Variations on the name "Abegg" (1830). 3, Études after Paganini Caprices (1832). 4, Intermezzi (1832).
The Hagen Quartet from Salzburg plays Schumann’s tender, optimistic String Quartet in A Major, opus 41. Schubert is also in the spotlight today, with a quartet that lets you see how much the musicians are enjoying themselves. Read the complete description. This was a marvelous combination - and performance - of Schumann's best quintet, together with the Trout of Schubert and the excellent quintets of Dvorak and Brahms.
I find Schumann more l. I find Schumann more like to Schubert than to any other composer and vice versa. Beethoven's music is big in sound and has a very universal feel to it. Chopin's has a sort of unreal beauty to his music. That "dense" look is perhaps one difference between the two composers: at least to my ears, Schumann sounds rather more dense and more Brahms-like than Schubert, who often seems to have a more Mozart-like clarity. But those are subjective observations.
