Everything Went Black. Everything Went Black is a compilation album by the American hardcore punk band Black Flag. It was released in 1982 through SST Records. The compilation comprises early songs recorded before Henry Rollins became the band's vocalist in 1981, and was initially released without the group's name on its cover, due to their lawsuit with MCA/Unicorn. Instead, the names of the group members were listed on the first release. No More" (written by Dukowski) – 3:00. Room 13" (written by Ginn and Medea) – 2:08. Damaged II" (written by Ginn and Cadena) – 4:13. Dez Cadena – lead vocals on tracks 15-24.

My War is the second studio album by American band Black Flag. It polarized fans on its release in 1984 on SST Records over the LP's B-side, on which the band slowed down to a heavy, Black Sabbath-esque trudge, despite the reputation the band had earned as leaders in fast hardcore punk on its first album, Damaged (1981). Ginn doubled on bass guitar under the name "Dale Nixon" for the recording as he had pushed out co-founding bassist Chuck Dukowski shortly before recording; the album includes two tracks Dukowski wrote. The six tracks on the A-side of the LP are generally high-paced, thrashy hardcore, featuring guitar solos unusual in punk.

The five-piece Black Flag lineup of Ginn, Dukowski, Robo, Cadena, and Rollins recorded the band's first full-length album, Damaged, in 1981. However, Robo encountered visa problems at the end of a December 1981 tour of the United Kingdom and could not legally return to the United States. By November 1979, however, Morris was growing "burned out" with Black Flag's long and frequent rehearsals, and began making excuses to miss them. His feelings of isolation within the band exacerbated his problems with drugs and alcohol: "I was doing a lot of drugs, and I was drinking quite a bit", he later recalled, "That's like the major reason.

Ron Reyes, former singer for the Happy Tampons, joined the group as the new singer, but used the name Chavo Pederast. Not long after, Migdol left the group and was replaced by Robo on drums. The new lineup released the Jealous Again EP in 1980, followed by an extensive tour. Black Flag went several months without a singer, until they found Dez Cadena. With another lineup in place, they recorded and released the EP Six Pack. Once again plagued with member changes, Cadena decided to step down as the group’s singer when his voice became too strained on the road. He stayed with the group as a rhythm guitarist, and set out to help find his replacement.

My copy of this has the Black Flag name/logo covered up with marker on one of the disk labels (both sides). Anybody else have that? Wondering if it came that way or somebody did it after.
Folsa
This version came out before 1987. I bought it new when I was in high school around 1985.
Celace
Agreed. Agreed again because Discogs requires ten words or more.

This compilation provides an excellent collection of Black Flag tracks from the pre-Rollins era. Morris, Chavo, and Dez all added a unique character to the band, and this album makes it obvious. The progression of the band's sound is apparent, the multiple version of Gimme Gimme Gimme make it clear, but overall the listener hears the band's sound get more aggressive and faster as the LP progresses. Overall a great record to buy to see the progression of Black Flag as a band, prior to Rollins taking over in 1981.
