Like many of Ono's songs from this period, the lyrics deal with her emotional healing following the murder of her husband John Lennon. The upbeat new wave song samples a recording of Lennon screaming Yoko's name from their Wedding Album, followed by her son Sean waking her, as if it were a bad dream. The song garnered minor airplay upon release. Loneliness" appeared on the B-side.

US promotional pressing is basically the same as stock pressing Yoko Ono - Never Say Goodbye, Loneliness, but labels state "Promotional Copy Not For Sale" and has gold "LOANED FOR PROMOTION" stamp somewhere on the jacket. Official release date at stores was Feb 22, 1983. Contains 2 re-mixed tracks from her "It's Alright" album. Pressed at PRC-Compton as identified by small "26" under 33 1/2 on labels and PRC-C in the run-outs.

The second Lennon/Ono album, Unfinished Music No. 2: Life with the Lions, appeared not long after their wedding; it spotlighted Ono's cathartic vocals and addressed her first of several miscarriages. It was quickly followed by The Wedding Album, one side of which featured more Ono improv, the other of which consisted of couple calling each other's names. Over the next few years, Lennon and Ono continued their peace activism, and entered primal-scream therapy with Dr. Arthur Janov, which influenced both of their individual careers
