Dead Petz offers an uncensored look at Miley Cyrus’ id and it’s a distillation of an artist’s soul that is both rare and wonderful, delivered so effortlessly off-the-cuff that it may occasionally sound haphazard. But there’s always an exacting method to her freewheeling madness. The lyrics are deep and personal. Reviews about Miley Cyrus - Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz (7):
As someone who dislikes Miley Cyrus as a person it would be easy for me to be negative. However I like SOME of MC songs and her voice can be very good especially on some of her early music. In fact she has an annoying habit of producing some good songs on most albums. It's a guilty pleasure. So when i heard this album I liked a fair few of the songs and thought it was one of her better albums. I then found out it was released independently and when I read the reviews of this release I was very unsure about buying it. Surely it can't be that bad? But as it was never released other than through digital... It was one release I had to give a punt on, despite all the negative reviews on this release and it's mastering quality. So, if you're reading this, how did I find it? Well there was a lot of surface noise especially as you get to sides E and F. Personally I can't tell yet if that was to do with excess dust or not as I didn't give it a clean prior to playing. But I've not heard that much surface noise from other non cleaned records and this was meant to be mint-mint. When I've cleaned it I'll give it another whirl to be sure. However I do think it is excess noise, but does it take away from the songs and listening experience? Perhaps a little.. especially on sides E and F but quite frankly i wasn't that bothered. This is an independent release, with pretty much experimental music from Miley compared to her normal output and it for the most part works. As an independent rather than a official release it gives it a feel or being quite raw in that sense. If you can look past the expectation of this being a masterful piece of mastering.. then you won't be overly dissapointed. I tried hard to listen to ant distortions to the speed or sound like others have mentioned and it is possible the speeds at moments appear to affect the music a little, again mostly on sides E and F it doesn't for me at least appear to affect the singing voice. Does this perhaps ruin the experience? If you're an audiophile then maybe. If you're going to listen to this casually then you won't notice it that much, if at all. A lot of the imperfections are mainly noticeable if you're going to sit and study each note. As this is Miley, that's something I wont, or wouldn't normally, do. I believe if you treat this is a rare item with its deficiencies as just part of the experience, rather than expect perfection then you're still going to get enjoyment out of listening to this. Consider this, I'm far more annoyed at how awful Adele's album 21 was so poorly mastered. Why? Because her voice demands a good mastering. The music demands it to. She is that kind of singer and this was an official release. With that there was justifiably an expectation and I am not the only one who has pointed this out with 21.
Since my initial review I have cleaned the record and had a second listen. I can confirm the following: There is no inherent noise issue throughout this album. A couple of the songs, inparticular the final track on side F, does appear to have excess noise but for the most part the songs are quiet elsewhere. I have been able to listen to this album with enjoyment, I may he noticing some slight pitch and speed variations at some points in this album but I'm struggling to tell if it's either on purpose or it's there in the original recordings but highlighted because or the way vinyl can highlight sounds that may be missed on a CD recording. The fact I'm struggling to tell will perhaps give you, the reader, some indication that whatever problems this album may suffer from, they are not chronic problems, at least for me. I suspect it boils down to this. You are not at the time of writing going to find this album on any other physical media and how much of an audiophile are you? When you've addressed those two points of thought then you will be able to make your decision. I write all of this as someone who had huge reservations about buying this after seeing the previous review so wanted to really try and give future buyers a bigger picture. Hope it's helped.
One of the worst pressings of anything I've ever heard. I still can't work out why RCA won't just do an official physical release of this. Or even a bootlegger with some idea of quality control. Going to go back to my own CDr version for the moment...
What happened so ? Sorry for being so curious... :3
It was an independent release by Miley, that's why RCA wont press this probably.
Mine sounds fine. But yes I would love an official version.
I'm guessing you were waiting for HHV to have this in stock too.Absolutely sucks eh! I found A was just bad surface noise, B had weird patches of like digital noise and E&F were so uncentred it sounded out of tune. :(I'm waiting for hhv to send out a replacement.
