In 1984 he founded the St. James Baroque Players who have now established themselves, under his direction, as one of the most accomplished orchestras in their field, particularly through the Lufthansa Festival of Baroque Music at St. James's Piccadilly, of which he is the Music Director. Since 1982 Ivor Bolton has been closely associated with Glyndebourne and became Music Director of Glyndebourne Touring Opera in 1992. For two seasons he was also Music Director of English Touring Opera. In the concert field, Ivor Bolton has enjoyed a regular and fruitful relationship with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra which has led to his appointment as Principal Conductor. He has also conducted many of the other front-rank orchestras, in Britain, Europe and Canada. With the London Philharmonic Orchestra and Xue-Wei he has recorded the Brahms and Mendelssohn Violin Concertos.
List of concertos for harpsichord solo by J. S. Bach. Apart from his orchestral keyboard concertos and his solo organ concertos, Johann Sebastian Bach composed keyboard concertos for unaccompanied harpsichord: Most of his Weimar concerto transcriptions, over twenty arrangements of Italian and Italianate orchestral concertos which he produced around 1713–1714 when he was employed in Weimar, were written for solo harpsichord (BWV 592a and 972–987).
Johann Sebastian Bach's Harpsichord Concerto No. 3 in D major, BWV 1054, is an adaptation of his own Violin Concerto in E major, BWV 1042. He made it sometime during the 1730s for performance by the Leipzig Collegium Musicum - a large ensemble made up of the city's music enthusiasts that played in taverns and coffee shops a few times a week. Bach had been director since 1729. Most, if not all, of Bach's harpsichord concertos are transcriptions of concertos for other instruments, but only in a few cases have those source pieces survived
