Practice at the Peking Opera School was very strict. The students signed into contracts that would allow the instructors to punish them up until death. Training would take place up to 18 hours a day and included stretching, weapons training, acrobatics, martial arts and acting. In Chan's biography, he elaborates on how students would be made to adopt the horse stance and other balancing poses, for long periods of time.
Chan produced a number of action comedy films with his opera school friends Sammo Hung and Yuen Biao. The three co-starred together for the first time in 1983 in Project A, which introduced a dangerous stunt-driven style of martial arts that won it the Best Action Design Award at the third annual Hong Kong Film Awards. Chan had vocal lessons whilst at the Peking Opera School in his childhood. He began producing records professionally in the 1980s and has gone on to become a successful singer in Hong Kong and Asia. He has released 20 albums since 1984 and has performed vocals in Cantonese, Mandarin, Japanese, Taiwanese and English. Jackie Chan and Jet Li Will Fight In 'Forbidden Kingdom'". Taiwanese opera commonly known as Ke-Tse opera or Hokkien opera, is the traditional drama form originated in Taiwan. Its earliest form adopted elements of folk songs from Zhangzhou, Fujian, China. The story elements are traditionally based on folk tales of the southern Fujian region, though in recent years stories are increasingly set in Taiwan locales
Peking Opera plays can be distinguished in 'civil plays' (wenxi) and 'martial plays' (wuxi). Civil plays focus on the relationships between characters, and tell stories of love and intrigue. In these types of plays principally dan and older roles appear on stage. Martial plays generally focus on action, acrobatics and martial arts; young sheng, jing, and chou use to be the main characters.

Chan, Hung, Yuen celebrate half-century of institute. HONG KONG - Jackie Chan didn't take acting lessons or attend a fancy conservatory. The biggest star in kung fu cinema learned his craft from a retired Peking Opera star who turned his apartment into a performing arts boot camp for working-class Hong Kong children in the 1960s. On Friday, Chan and dozens of his fellow graduates gathered at a luxury Hong Kong hotel to mark 50 years since their late teacher Yu Jim-yuen launched the now-defunct Hong Kong-China Opera Institute, a small boarding school that became a breeding ground for top.
