1968: Wow/Grape Jam. APPENDIX: Skip Spence. 1969: Oar. Disclaimer: this page is not written by from the point of view of a Moby Grape fanatic and is not generally intended for narrow-perspective Moby Grape fanatics. At the heart of Moby Grape may have been a mad genius (Skip Spence), but Skip actually only gets two of his songs on here, with all the other band members also songwriters. And this is good, professional songwriting, which eventually gets to you; not a single song is really "misguided" or "fillerish".

Moby Grape '84 is a 1984 album released by Moby Grape on the San Francisco Sound label. It is also known as "Silver Wheels" album, after the introductory song on the album, and as the "Heart Album", as referenced to the album cover. The album is notable in that it is produced by the band's former manager Matthew Katz, who also owned the San Francisco Sound label. Paradoxically, since the early 1970s, Moby Grape had been in litigation with Katz over ownership of the band name and related royalties; at the time of recording the album, matters had not been resolved.
Moby Grape '69 is the third album by the psychedelic rock band Moby Grape. It is the first album after the departure of co-founder Skip Spence. Spence nonetheless is heard on one song, "Seeing", presumably from the Wow/Grape Jam sessions, and positioned as the final song on Moby Grape '69. As Peter Lewis describes the album, "We made Moby Grape '69, in an attempt to rebound from the Wow album, which was over-produced. And it's a cool album.
Album: Grape Jam. Duration: 37:31 ? Other rock albums: James Bay - Chaos And The Calm. The Black Keys - El Camino.
Grape Jam (1968) is an instrumentally heavy platter with the quintet joined by Al Kooper (keyboards) and Michael Bloomfield (piano/guitar) on the Windy City blues-inspired "Marmalade. While some of the lengthier outings, particularly the languid "Black Current Jam," tend to drag on a bit, Mosley's "Never" - which was pinched by Led Zeppelin as "Since I've Been Loving You" - and the gutsy "Boysenberry Jam" remain overall worthwhile spins Before I ever heard any of their songs, I knew of Moby Grape by reputation - the quintessential 60's band that had an incredible first album, the success of which they could never top, and they flamed out big time. I always wondered how that momentum was halted and how such a highly regarded band could flop.
