The Lonesome Ace Stringband is an old-time music trio based in Toronto, Ontario. The Lonesome Ace Stringband. We'll be back in the UK - September 5 -23! Man did we have a great time on our recent UK tour. It was a thrill to play at Celtic Connections in Glasgow, and pretty much everywhere else we played. We're thrilled to announce that we'll be working with Brookfield-Knights Booking again on another tour of the old country this coming September. In March, we will head back into the studio to begin work on our 4th album "Modern Old-Time Sounds for the Bluegrass and Folk Song Jamboree". We are excited to be working with our pal Gavin Gardner again. The album will be released next fall so keep an eye out! Download our new record.

The Lonesome River Band is an American contemporary bluegrass band. The band has released 15 recording projects since its formation in 1982. Lonesome River Band is led by Sammy Shelor who is a member of the Virginia Country Music Hall of Fame and a 5-Time International Bluegrass Music Association Banjo Player of the Year Award recipient.
The Lonesome Ace Stringband brings grit, skill and abandon to old-time, Appalachian folk songs and fiddle/banjo tunes. These are songs and tunes for life and all of it’s occasions: festivals, dances, wars, parties and funerals. The music comes from a tradition that has inspired and brought together generations of people. In 2016, the band recorded their sophomore album "Gone For Evermore". Heading into the studio, the group’s goal was to capture the feel, energy and narrative of their live playing. Since 2008, LAS has held a weekend residency at Toronto's legendary Dakota Tavern.
The blistering speed of the well-rehearsed Lonesome Ace Stringband is what stands out from the start. It isn't until the third track, a classic longing composition "Fox Hunt," that the boys slow the tempo and offer a romantic glimpse back in time
The Lonesome Ace Stringband brings grit, skill and abandon to old-time, Appalachian folk songs and fiddle/banjo tunes. The members are Chris Coole on banjo, John Showman on fiddle and Max Heineman on bass. Together they bring a deep respect for the roots of the music, a keen sense of innovation to the performance and material, and a passion for the sound that transcends both. 2018 will see the band release it's 3rd album "When the Sun Comes Up", which takes a step away from the traditional repertoire of the first two recordings and features the songwriting of all three members.
