You're a Grand Old Flag" is an American patriotic march. The song, a spirited march written by George M. Cohan, is a tribute to the American flag. In addition to obvious references to the flag, it incorporates snippets of other popular songs, including one of his own. Cohan wrote it in 1906 for his stage musical George Washington, Jr. The chorus is also used (with the words changed) as the team song for the Melbourne Football Club.

Two singles were released from the album. The first single, "We're an American Band", was released on July 2, 1973 and the second, "Walk Like a Man", was released on October 29, 1973.

To all our American readers, Happy Independence Day! This song is 113 years old and still widely known - and not because it's a standard sung by Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga; it's not a song for listening to but for bellowing out. And so across the century it's been kept alive not by CDs from professional vocalists but by being played and sung, as it will be today, by small-town bands and boy scouts and ordinary citizens lining the parade route: You're A Grand Old Flag You're a high flyin' flag And forever in peace may you wave.
