While 'Koi No Yokan' might not match 'White Pony,' which is the transitional and pinnacle album for the band that came out over 12 years ago, it has a similar spirit to that album and the self-titled release that followed it. In fact, if 'Koi No Yokan' had come out after 2003's 'Deftones,' it would not interrupt the catalog's flow. Overall, if the Smashing Pumpkins were heavier, ballsier and angrier, they'd make albums that sound like this, since Deftones do have an alt-metal vibe

Koi No Yokan takes out the strengths of each of these albums since White Pony and leaves out the above criticized points. It´s pretty dark, flows really good as a whole album (nearly every song connects with the next) and adds a huge amount of atmosphere to it. Also, the production seems to be improved regarding Diamond Eyes. There is not one song which doesn´t fit into the album, each song has its place and is loveable from start to finish. Starting with Swerve City as a bouncy, poppy opener, Koi No Yokan beautifully delivers Deftones signature move: the dynamics. Rosemary is the heart of Koi No Yokan, one of Deftones highlights of their whole career. A melody which stays in your head forever. Goon Squad with its dynamics lets you headbang before What happened to you? closes the album with a trippy dreampoppy sound. Reminds directly of Chi, who still suffers from the accident 4 yours ago.

The album mostly revolves around dynamics, and the act's fusion of sounds heavy and fragile is in a class by itself. Leathers softly kicks off only to suddenly burst into bombastic verses climaxing in an enthralling chorus. In contrast, Tempest avoids jarring shifts gradually releasing tension to supremely chilling effect. Both these tracks heavily rely on Moreno's vocals that seem more passionate and emotionally wrenching than ever before. The singer has always been amazingly versatile, and his performance on Koi No Yokan is no exception
