Franco Cerri (born January 29, 1926) is an Italian guitarist and double bassist. He is considered one of the most important European jazz musicians. Cerri was born in Milan and learned to play guitar when he was 17. In 1945 he became a member of the group led by Gorni Kramer and joined the orchestra of the television show Buone vacanze. He played double bass in addition to guitar starting in the 1950s, such as with Chet Baker and Buddy Collette.

Franco Cerri (born 19 January 1926, Milan, Italy) is an Italian jazz guitarist and bass player. Franco Cerri is not only one of the world's most popular and most authoritative Italian guitarists, but is also one of the most important stylists in the European jazz world. He began his long and prolific career in 1945 with Gorni Kramer and in 1949 he accompanied Django Reinhardt. In the 1950's he worked with notable jazz musicians including Chet Baker, Gerry Mulligan, Billie Holiday and Lee Konitz.

De Piscopo releases his firs solo album, Suonando La Batteria Moderna, in 1974. One of hi most successful songs is "Andamento lento", which won Festivalbar in 1988. His 1983 single, "Stop Bajon (Primavera)" reached No. 58 in the UK Singles Chart in March 1987.

Ascoltare Franco Cerri è sempre un grande piacere. L'uscita di questo disco coincide con il suo novantesimo compleanno e celebra i 70 anni di una carriera prestigiosa, che l'ha visto affermarsi tra i massimi chitarristi europei e lasciare un segno profondo nel nostro panorama musicale, anche oltre l'ambito del jazz. L'incisione è stata propiziata da Stefano Coppari, giovane chitarrista marchigiano che collabora con Cerri da qualche anno dopo averlo conosciuto in occasione della sua tesi di laurea. Ovviamente è sulla chitarra di Cerri che si concentra l'attenzione. Volutamente non spettacolare e dal sound ovattato, il suo fraseggio è caratterizzato da un esemplare uso di note e pause, con cui sviluppa un disegno melodico prezioso. Una ricerca d'essenzialità poetica che con gli anni sembra accentuarsi, avvicinandolo a Jim Hall.
