Live at the Isle of Wight Festival is a double live album by The Who, recorded at the Isle of Wight Festival on 29 August 1970, and released in 1996. A DVD of the concert was also released for the first time in 1996. The Who were one year and three months into their Tommy tour when they played their second engagement at the Isle of Wight Festival. As in 1969, they played most of their famous rock opera, which by this time was quite familiar to the festival crowd

Reply Notify me Helpful. The Rory Gallagher's guitar playing was a revelation for many. Highlight among other things it was occur during the festival on the Isle of Wight in 1970. The lp Live at the Isle of Wight is a good reflection of the music of Taste. Mutual feuds (Richard and John felt that Rory assumed too much attention) ensured that the band ceased to exist at the end of 1970. Richard and John have still, without great success, in different bands played.

The original release of Live at the Isle of Wight features six tracks, three of which are extended jams. Through out this live experience, the band showcase exactly what they do best and then some. The group prove to those now that they were a group of talented musicians and only a live album this raw warts and all could prove such a thing. The record suffers like a lot of the similar festival recordings from this time period
