Herbie Mann - Stone Flute mp3 album

Stone Flute is a unique body of work from the Herbie Mann catalog, with minor hints at late 60’s and early 70’s experiments into the realm of fusion. Nevertheless, this is not an album you’re gonna want to miss, as it goes down easy, holding your attention, without demanding it. Herbie Mann – Flute Sonny Sharrock – Guitar Roy Ayers – Vibes Ron Carter – Bass Miroslav Vitous – Bass Bruno Carr – Drums Mickey Rocca – Drums Gene Orloff – Violin Manny Green – Violin Peter Dimitriades – Violin Selwart Clarke – Viola Al Brown – Viola Kermit Moore – Cello George Ricci – Cello.

Instead of funk, there was moodiness. Instead of a groove, there were violins, viola and cello. The feeling was one of floating in space, with the flute sailing freely over the William Fischer arrangements, like a Miles Davis trumpet solo of this, the Bitches Brew era. This is a totally atypical Herbie Mann recording, but one which rewards repeated listening.

Stone(d) Flute is an anomaly in the otherwise groovy lounge friendly output of Mr Mann. It has this constant ethereal quality to it that puts it more in the realm of ambient or cosmic rather than jazz. Perfect for mellow psychedelic rituals right? It's definitely one of his best albums. it seems Ron Carter is present in every single jazz album worth listening to from the past 6 decades. Thanks aguirre - you always know what to post and your eclectic posts are always a treat so thank you thank you and oh yes, DID I say. Thank you!!!! 3 months ago.

Stone Flute Original recording. Herbie Mann Format: Vinyl. There was Gene Harris and the 3 Sounds "Soul Symphony" that was played at least as often as 'Stone Flute", that is how highly this album was regarded in the 70's, along with Soft Machines "3rd" album. The thing of it is, when I play this album for every generation that has passed, they love this album. It is timeless, as certain albums always will be. I will not wax eloquently about the sound, as that has already been done, but to say this is Mann's very best and creative effort, is to my mind, saying it right.
