The first ten tracks, recorded on Dec 4th & 5th, 1957 in Paris, is devoted to the suite of Miles Davis' music for the soundtrack to the French film L'Ascenseur Pour l'Échafaud. Tracks 11 to 14 represents only a portion of the May 26th, 1958, New York studio session of Miles's sextet that has since been reissued in full on CD. Tracks 15 to 17 are bonus tracks, recorded March 16th, 1956, they are absent from Jazz Beat's LP version of Jazz Track.

Porgy and Bess (Miles Davis album). Porgy and Bess (CL 1274) is a studio album by jazz musician Miles Davis, released in March 1959 on Columbia Records. The album features arrangements by Davis and collaborator Gil Evans from George Gershwin's 1935 opera of the same name. The album was recorded in four sessions on July 22, July 29, August 4, and August 18, 1958, at Columbia's 30th Street Studio in New York City.

The "A" side, which featured Miles in the company of jazz ex-patriots playing the soundtrack for a French film, proved dispensable whereas the "B" side, with Bronislaw Kaper's "On Green Dolphin Street" (from a film of the same title) and Victor Young's "Stella by Starlight" (from "The Uninvited") had a lasting, seminal influence on Miles' fans and musicians alike.
