Of course, the band's skewed outlook and mid-'60s pop sense keeps things from becoming too heavy - included are some of their finest songs, like "Respectable Street," "Generals and Majors," and "Towers of London," as well as the thoroughly enjoyable pop fluff throwaway "Sgt. Black Sea' saw XTC move permanently away from the high-pitched nervous energy of their earlier works to a far more 'rock' sounding band (later to be eclipsed by pastoral then psychedelic flavoured releases) ' is an excellent ode to miscommunication) the attention grabbing, hook-laden singles are probably the weakest tracks on the album strangely, as is the mood of the album which, despite it's up-tempo nature seems dark and complex (rather like the sleeve cover!).

Johnnie and David Hepworth turn the spotlight onto two key long players – in 1985 the Village Voice critics poll voted Talking Heads Little Creatures album of the year.
