The Mamas & The Papas - The Dunhill Sounds Vol.2 mp3 album
The Mamas and the Papas were an American folk rock vocal group who recorded and performed from 1965 to 1968. The group was a defining force in the music scene of the counterculture of the 1960s. The group was composed of John Phillips, Denny Doherty, Cass Elliot, and Michelle Phillips née Gilliam. Their sound was based on vocal harmonies arranged by John Phillips, the songwriter, musician, and leader of the group who adapted folk to the new beat style of the early 1960s.
The Mamas & the Papas is the self-titled second studio album by the American folk rock vocal group The Mamas & the Papas, released in 1966. The album peaked at number 4 on the US Billboard 200 album chart and number 24 in the UK. The Mamas & the Papas discography. The Mamas and the Papas' recordings were released on Dunhill Records until 1967, when the company was sold and the label became ABC-Dunhill. Around 1973, ABC-Dunhill discarded all multi-track session recordings and mono masters because they were deemed obsolete and too expensive to store. The original recordings of The Mamas and the Papas, and of labelmates such as. Three Dog Night, are therefore lost, and it has been necessary to create digital versions from the stereo album masters, often second- or third-generation tapes
Original pressings of the DUNHILL Records LP entitled THE PAPAS & THE MAMAS (DS-50031) include a gatefold cover with left half cut horizontally at the midline that allowed for manipulating the four cover photos in a playful interchange of face parts. By the time sessions were held in mid-1967 at the home of John and Michelle Phillips, the heralded "Mamas & Papas sound" had grown a bit dusty, as had their use of core studio musicians Hal Blaine (drums), Larry Knechtel (keyboards) and Joe Osborn (bass). Released in '68, possibly the greatest classic rock year of all, this album was at best a mixed effort. The choice to include extraneous sounds, like (perhaps sarcastic) applause at the end of "Ivy" or Cass in conversation as "Dream a Little Dream" begins, is a curious one.
