Eric Clapton has announced a new studio album for this spring and it will include contributions from and old, old friend. Clapton had numerous prominent collaborations with Harrison, prior to his death in 2001. Clapton performed guitar on the Beatles’ While My Guitar Gently Weeps and they both appeared on each other’s live albums in the late ‘80s and early ‘90s. I Still Do is Clapton’s first album to feature his own new material since 2013’s Old Sock. It comes out via his own Bushbranch imprint, in cooperation with Surfdog Records. In the late Sixties, the Beatles and Eric Clapton kicked offa nearly five-decade-long tradition of recorded collaborations. When Cream decided to call it quits in late 1968, each member of the band, including Clapton, bassist Jack Bruce and drummer Ginger Baker, was required to come up with a new song for the group’s final album, Goodbye, which was released in February 1969. Clapton called on Harrison for assistance. I was writing the words down, and when we came to the middle bit, I wrote ‘Bridge,’ Harrison said. Clapton’s brilliance is best represented on the album’s powerful title track, which you can hear below.
Eric Clapton's eponymous solo debut was recorded after he completed a tour with Delaney & Bonnie. Clapton used the core of the duo's backing band and co-wrote the majority of the songs with Delaney Bramlett - accordingly, Eric Clapton sounds more laid-back and straightforward than any of the guitarist's previous recordings. And the pop element of the record is the strongest of the album's many elements - "Blues Power" isn't a blues song and only "Let It Rain," the album's closer, features extended solos. That is both a good and a bad thing - it's encouraging to hear him grow and become a more fully rounded musician, but too often the album needs the spark that some long guitar solos would have given it.
Music legend Eric Clapton has reunited with famed producer Glyn Johns for his forthcoming 23rd studio album, I Still Do, set for release on 20 May 2016 on his Bushbranch Records/Surfdog Records. Clapton and Johns – who has also produced albums for The Eagles, The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin and The Who – most famously worked together on Clapton’s iconic Slowhand album, which is RIAA-certified 3x-platinum and topped charts globally. The 12-track record includes some original songs written by Clapton
