Motel Shot is the fourth studio album by Delaney & Bonnie and Friends, released in 1971. The album, their third for Atco/Atlantic (catalog no. SD 33-358) and fifth overall, is a mostly acoustic set. The album's title refers to the impromptu, sometimes late-night, jam sessions pursued by touring musicians when on the road. In the liner notes, Delaney Bramlett dedicates the album to "My mom who sang alto.

After an attempt to record one such jam in the living room of recording engineer Bruce Botnick, Delaney & Bonnie and their friends ended up doing it over again in a recording studio. But if Motel Shot doesn't seem as spontaneous as the principals wanted it to be, it does have a loose, playful feel that's honestly winning. The performances are almost entirely acoustic, and the set is dominated by traditional blues, gospel, and country standards that this crew could ease into comfortably and bend to their moods.

Delaney & Bonnie were the American musical duo of singer/songwriters Delaney and Bonnie Bramlett. In 1969 and 1970, they fronted a rock/soul ensemble, Delaney & Bonnie and Friends, whose members at different times included Duane Allman, Gregg Allman, George Harrison, Leon Russell, Bobby Whitlock, Dave Mason, Rita Coolidge, King Curtis, and Eric Clapton. Delaney Bramlett (July 1, 1939, Pontotoc County, Mississippi – December 27, 2008, Los Angeles) learned the guitar in his youth

As it turns out, it wasn't recorded in a motel at all! Instead, the album consists of tracks recorded in two places: a recording studio and in Bruce Botnick's living room in the Hollywood Hills the evening before the studio session. The second album here, consisting of unreleased tracks and alternative takes, was all recorded in the living room, which was about 29' x 20' with a cathedral ceiling.
