Miles Davis - Panthalassa: The Remixes mp3 album

Panthalassa: The Music of Miles Davis 1969–1974 is a remix album by Miles Davis, released on February 16, 1998, by Sony Records. It contains compositions from prior albums, including In a Silent Way, On the Corner and Get Up With It, remixed by Bill Laswell; it is subtitled "Reconstruction and Mix Translation by Bill Laswell". The album was composed as a dark, continuous tone poem divided by four sections of Davis' jazz fusion recordings.

The album is the follow-up to Bill Laswell's Panthalassa: The Music of Miles Davis, 1969-1974, and are remixes from a number of artists of the remixes initially done on that release. At times the interpretations are miles from Miles Davis, but it must be kept in mind that the emphasis here is DJ remixes in the universe of clubland. Laswell churns out the most intriguing selection with the 16:42 of On The Corner (Subterranean Channel Mix), while the brilliant Davis trumpet line drives In A Silent Way (DJ Cam remix).

Reviews about Miles Davis - Panthalassa: The Remixes (3):

I think DJ Cam captured the essence of Miles Davis during this creative electronic inspired era of jazz music. Cam's underground Hip Hop, to me, is a perfect mesh with Miles' downtempo "In a Silent Way."
Fordrellador
A legend who constantly looked forward creatively rather than wallow in retrospection, there is no doubt Miles Davis would have been as enraptured by producer/bassist Bill Laswell's adept reworking of the legendary trumpeter's music on Panthalassa: The Music of Miles Davis 1969-1974 as he would have been on listening to Panthalassa - The Remixes, a new sonic adventure that takes Miles' timeless legacy into a new epoch.

I don't like this over all. the only one who made Miles Davis look interesting is Bill Laswell. All other remixers treat him like usual house or dnb-music and don't give a fuck about the original Miles Davis. But there's more to "On The Corner" and "Bitches Brew".
