Beethoven - Berliner Philharmoniker, Herbert Von Karajan - Symphony No.6 "Pastoral" and Overture from "Fidelio" Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra Herbert Von Karajan mp3 album
But for a first-rate conductor with a first-rate orchestra on a full-price label, this 1984 cycle of the Beethoven symphonies by Herbert von Karajan and the Berlin Philharmonic on Deutsche Grammophon is arguably the worst ever recorded. That Karajan was a first-rate conductor who made many great recordings is inarguable. That his 1963 cycle of the Beethoven symphonies with the Berlin Philharmonic on DG is among the two or three greatest is debatable.

Ludwig van Beethoven: Symphony n. "Pastoral", Overtures. Ludwig van Beethoven. This Galleria CD issue is from the 1975-7 cycle. It is very good, if not the very best of Karajan's Beethoven Symphonies. Karajan even played III this way in his 1955 Philharmonia Beethoven 8, and he was just 47 at that time. Fidelio" Overture is also excellent, as are all Karajan's overtures (DG Galleria, 2 CD set).

Ravel - Orchestral Works (Herbert von Karajan/Berlin ra de Paris). Who better than Herbert von Karajan to guide us through the orchestra works of Ravel, one of France's most lush and romantic composers? 73. Respighi - Pines of Rome (Chicago Symphony Orchestra/Fritz Reiner). This innovative work features recorded birdsong (a gimmick from the era when loudspeakers were something of a novelty), but it's the gorgeous, atmospheric orchestral work that lingers longer in the memory.
