Sky "Sunlight" Saxon (August 20, 1937 – June 25, 2009) was an American rock and roll musician, best known as the leader and singer of the 1960s Los Angeles psychedelic garage rock band The Seeds. Saxon was born Richard Elvern Marsh in Salt Lake City, Utah on August 20, 1937. His widow has said that his birthday was August 20, but would not confirm the year because he believed age was irrelevant

The Seeds were an American rock band formed in Los Angeles, California in 1965. The group became known for psychedelic rock music and is considered a prototype for garage punk rock bands. The Seeds were formed in 1965 when lead singer Sky Saxon responded to an advertisement. Saxon, who had relocated to Los Angeles from Salt Lake City, had recorded a string of 45s under the name Richie Marsh.

There are hours and hours of Sky Saxon recordings made with an endless number of bands over the past three decades since the early 70s demise of The Seeds. With the help and support of Sabrina Saxon, Karl has been busy releasing and planning to release Sky’s music. In this exclusive interview with SkySaxonSeeds. com, Karl reveals the behind-the-scenes work of this exciting, years-long task, talks about some upcoming releases (including a lot of unreleased material!), and discusses his relationship with Sky Saxon. com: How did you first meet and get involved with Sky and Sabrina?

The raucous sound of Sky Saxon's band the Seeds made them a local phenomenon in Los Angeles in the mid-1960s, but few could have predicted that Saxon would go on to become his own one-man cult. After disappearing into a religious commune during the 70s, Saxon, who has died in Austin, Texas, after a short illness, bounced back to reassert his credentials as one of the founding fathers of garage rock. Their debut album, The Seeds, epitomised the garage band ethos of short, punchy songs powered by fuzzy guitars, clattering drums and crude organ, with Saxon's Jagger-like yowl on top. Its highlight was Pushin' Too Hard, a deliciously dim classic that never rose higher than 37 on the charts but is renowned as a benchmark of its genre. Saxon now retreated into the Source Family, a religious sect formed by beatnik Jim Baker, alias Father Yod.
