Various - The Songs Lennon And McCartney Gave Away mp3 album
The Songs Lennon and McCartney Gave Away was a conceptual compilation album containing the original artist recordings of songs composed by John Lennon and Paul McCartney in the 1960s that they had elected not to release as Beatles songs. The album was released in the UK in 1979. With the exception of "I'm the Greatest", a Ringo Starr album track written for him by John Lennon in 1973, all songs were recorded and released as singles during the active Beatles years in the 1960s.
An essential album (unless you already have all the singles !) This album concerns itself with material written by John and/or Paul quite early in their career. As a rule the Beatles did NOT write songs specifically for other artists to perform, almost all songs were written as potential tracks for The Beatles. But if requests came in for material, they would simply pick something out from the "spare" songs. Of course, most requests would be turned down, but it was almost impossible to refuse Brian Epstein himself. 17/07/1964 - Parlophone R 5156 See From A Window.
Inside Love Lennon-McCartney 08/03/1968 - Parlophone R 5674 Reached n. in the chart. Instead of this album or the Xmas album or an expanded Live at Hollywood bowl like people have been begging for the Beatles Corp decides to give us an inflated priced & unnecessary remastered version of which was sort of an unnecessary album to begin with.

Yesterday we blogged about the 1979 album, "The Songs Lennon and McCartney Gave Away" and its Swedish predecessor "Northern Songs". We told you we could find no information on the internet about this earlier incarnation of the album and doubted its existence.

The idea for the album came from Australian music writer Glenn A Baker, and the album was originally released on Glenn's record label, Raven Records, in 1994. Glenn had seen the band perform, & knew what they were capable of, & so he approached them & asked if they would be interested in spending a few weeks in the studio recording and mixing 19 songs that Lennon & McCartney had written, but never released by The Beatles.
