Marilyn McCoo (born September 30, 1943) is an American singer, actress, and television presenter, who is best known for being the lead female vocalist in the group The 5th Dimension, as well as hosting the 1980s music countdown series Solid Gold. Marilyn McCoo: There's always a sense of pressure. Billy Davis, J. Exactly right, you always want to come with something that could launch the next album or that could be a hit from that next album. MM: Yeah, and you really would like to be able to follow up one success with another success. We felt that kind of pressure with The 5th Dimension, so absolutely, we felt a similar kind of pressure because we had had the hit, we had had the TV show. MR: And the title track "The Two Of Us" comes from The Marilyn McCoo & Billy Davis, Jr. Show, right? BDJ: That's right, yeah. MR: So when you went from that album to The Two Of Us album, did you feel like you needed to switch it up a little bit and that's why you got with Frank? I mean, you had such a big hit with the guy. MM: Well, Don Davis was in Detroit and we were in Los Angeles. ABC Item No: 421556. Vinyl LP 1977, US – Original Used Vinyl (Vinyl: VG, Cover: VG). 8,99 €. Incl. Used Vinyl from Artist. Billy Davis Jr. & Marilyn McCoo 1976. 1976. Nothing Can Stop Me. Leaving the group in 1975, Davis and McCoo, who married in 1969, embarked on a career as a duo. Their second single, "You Don't Have to Be a Star (To Be in My Show)", reached the top chart position, remained in the Top 40 for 18 weeks, and culminated with Davis and McCoo receiving a Grammy for Best R&B Performance by a Group or Duo. Their third single, "Your Love," was released in April 1977, peaked at number fifteen. Leaving music in 1980, Davis worked a variety of jobs including construction, producing music, and running a pharmaceutical company
Marilyn McCoo and Bily Davis Jr were the leading voices on most of the groups 10 year of hits. As the left the group and launched their solo Career they went to straight to top with "You Don't have To Be Star" and placed another Grammy on their shelf. As their 2nd lp was in release ABC records got out of the record business and the project was lost. Off To Columbia the last McCoo Davis Lp (till this one) was released on Columbia Records. I could not be more pleased. Marilyn McCoo is one of the greatest gifts a song has ever received. Her phrasing and vocals are simply priceless and this collection shows she has not lost a thing. Her sultry version of "This Girl's In Love In Love With You" is spine tingling and when she updates "Never My Love", you will be brought to tears! Billy Davis Jr. is not the talent his wife is, but Marilyn more than makes up for this on the duets and her outstanding solo selections.
